The patent was granted in 1916 by Nishikawa. After granting the patent the method was applied to Akoya pearl oyster for the commercial purpose in the same year. There were another historical figure in Pearl History was Mitsubishi’s Baron Iwasaki who produced cultured south sea pearl first in Philippines and after that in Buton and Palau. The original Japanese cultured pearls are known as Akoya pearls.
