Why do many white people believe there is no such thing as black culture in America?

They always want we be like them. They act like being black is wrong.

Have you heard of the theory of assimilation? It says in essence people believe that immigrants (and minority groups who have been forced sorta here * ahem *) only succeed if and only if they assimilate into white culture dominant American. Many people think that if you do not assimilate, there is something wrong with you. Maybe you think you're better than them, or perhaps you are trying to be different (if you are naturally different, duh). It's like kids in high school. People who do not fit in are ridiculed for daring to be themselves.
